Susana reads about vacations as she waits for her brother so they can leave for school.

Susana: (daydreaming) Voy a hacer un viaje con mi familia. Podemos ir en avión, en barco...

Jorge: (yelling from the other room) ¡ Susana!

Susana: (ignoring him) ¿Voy al campo o a la ciudad? El año pasado mi familia y yo fuimos al campo. Pero yo generalmente prefiero...

Jorge: ¡Susana! ¿Qué haces?
She goes to the kitchen. Jorge is sitting calmly at the table, shaking an empty milk carton.

Jorge: Susana, ¿dónde está la leche?

Susana: ¡Mamá, papá!
Their parents come running into the kitchen.

Mamá: Susana, ,qué?

Susana: Mi hermano es imposible. ¡Me voy a quedar en un hotel!

Reflexive Verbs

Learn how to form and use reflexive verbs. Then use these verbs to describe the daily routines of yourself and others

English Grammar Connection: Reflexive verbs and reflexive pronouns show that the subject of a sentence both does and receives the action of the verb. The reflexive pronouns in English end in -self or -selves.

She dried herself with a towel.Ella se secó con una toalla.
Anita washes herself.Anita washes the dishes.
Use reflexive pronouns with reflexive verbs when the subject in a sentence is the same as its object.
lavarseto wash oneself
me lavonos lavamos
te lavasos lavais
se lavase lavan
Many verbs can be used with or without reflexive pronouns. When there is no reflexive pronoun, the person doing the action does not receive the action.
Anita se lava.Anita lava los platos.
Anita washes herself.Anita washes the dishes.
Do not use possessive adjectives with reflexive verbs. Use the definite article instead.
Anita se lava la cara.Anita is washing her face.
When an infinitive follows a conjugated verb, the reflexive pronoun When an infinitive follows a conjugated verb, the reflexive pronoun can be placed before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive.
Me voy a acostar a las once.
I'm going to go to bed at eleven.
or Voy a acostarme a las once.
Some verbs have different meanings when used reflexively.

ponerto put
ponerseto put on (clothes)
