Telehistoria escena 2

Goal: Identify how ser and estar are used in Manuel and Fernando’s conversation about themselves and things in the house. Then, use these verbs to discuss people and things in your life.

STRATEGIES
Cuando lees.
Consider the influence of the setting. Early in this scene, you discover whether Manuel’s bedroom is neat or messy. This has a significant impact on the action in the scene. How and why?

Young people talking.

Manuel: ¡Mi cuaderno no está aquí!

Fernando: (distracted) Y, ¿encima de la cama? ¿Y cerca de la lámpara? ¿Y en el armario? ¿En la cómoda?

Manuel looks around, but Fernando finds the notebook on the floor.

Fernando: Manuel, ¡eres muy desorganizado! ¡Todas tus cosas están en el suelo!

Meanwhile, Elena sees the package from Alicia in the living room and calls upstairs.

Elena: ¡Manuel! ¡Manueeeel!

Manuel: (He goes downstairs.) ¿Qué quieres? Estoy muy ocupado.

Elena: Sí, tú eres muy estudioso. She gives him the package.

Manuel opens it, dropping the T-shirt to read the letter on the floor. He goes back to his room.

Fernando: (reading the letter) ¿Tienes que ir al centro de Quito? ¿A ver a Trini Salgado?

Manuel: Sí. ¡Alicia quiere el autógrafo de Trini! Es importante. Tenemos que ir.

As they leave, Fernando realizes that Manuel forgot the T-shirt.

Fernando: Manuel… ¿y la camiseta?

Cuando escuchas. Find the real feelings. How does Elena describe Manuel? Is she sincere, or is she saying the opposite of what she feels? How can you tell?
