Unit Focus

This unit depicts the topography of the ocean floor and describes how the features of the ocean floor are formed.

The topography of the ocean floor is a vast and diverse as the topography of the land. The world ocean contains four basins each which contain its share of ridges, trenches, volcanoes, shelves and continental rise. They are the Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, and Indian. The Southern officially joined this group since the year 2000.  The undersea world causes many of the land forms that the world contains. Without the pressure of the undersea forms, the land topography would differ.

  1. State the features that make up the topography of the ocean floor.
  2. Explain how the features of the ocean floor are formed.
  3. Examine a profile of the topography of the ocean floor and label its features.
